Yountville Wine Tasting: One Perfect Afternoon on Washington Street

Mar 24, 2026

downtown Washington street Yountville

Yountville wine tasting has a certain appeal. The town runs just over a mile, yet it holds world-class restaurants, art galleries, and several standout tasting rooms, all within a short walk. No shuttle. No GPS confusion. Just a relaxed afternoon, a simple route, and wines worth your attention.

Why Yountville Rewards a Slower Pace

Many Napa Valley visitors arrive with packed itineraries and later wish they had slowed down. Yountville makes slowing down easy. Washington Street runs through the center of town, and most tasting rooms, shops, and restaurants sit within a comfortable walking distance.

The experience differs from the large estate visits common in St. Helena or Calistoga. Here, small tasting rooms share the street with bakeries, cafés, and public art. The scale feels personal. Conversations with hosts often last longer. The afternoon moves at its own pace.

Approach the day with a loose plan rather than a checklist and you will enjoy it more.

Stop 1: Handwritten Wines

Suggested Arrival: 11:00 AM or 1:00 PM
Allow: 60–75 Minutes

Begin at Handwritten. A late-morning or early-afternoon start gives you time to settle into the tasting without rushing to another reservation. Plan to spend about an hour to seventy-five minutes. The side-by-side tasting format encourages questions and helps you notice the differences between each wine instead of moving quickly through a flight.

Before leaving, ask about current releases and the Member Circle. The allocation membership includes complimentary tastings, access to limited wines, and invitations to member events.

Stop 2: Stewart Cellars

Allow: 45–60 Minutes

A short walk down Washington Street brings you to Stewart Cellars. The tasting room features a reclaimed-barn design, and the wines focus largely on Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The style and setting differ from Handwritten, which makes the stop a nice contrast while maintaining a similar level of quality.

Stop 3: Silver Trident Winery

Allow: 45–60 Minutes

Silver Trident sits nearby and offers a broader mix of wines. It works well as a final stop, especially for groups with different preferences. The staff keep the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming.

A Note on Parking

Yountville offers free public parking in several lots along and just off Washington Street. The lot beside V Marketplace is usually dependable, and street parking is available on nearby side streets. On weekends, arriving before 11:00 AM improves your chances of finding a close spot. Parking in town is not metered, so there is no need to move your car during the afternoon.

A Few Things to Know Before You Go

Most Yountville tasting rooms, including Handwritten, require reservations. Weekend spots fill quickly from late spring through fall. During peak season (May through October), booking about a week in advance is a safe approach.

Several good lunch options sit within walking distance. Bouchon Bakery on Washington Street works well for a mid-afternoon break between tastings. If you plan to stay for dinner, note that many of Yountville’s popular restaurants require reservations well ahead of time.

Focus on pacing rather than squeezing in as many tastings as possible. Two thoughtful visits usually offer more insight, and a better afternoon, than four rushed stops. Many tasting rooms here encourage conversation and exploration, so give yourself time to enjoy them.
