Had a lovely experience at Allora Vineyards! Their winery is in North St. Helena, right along the Napa River behind Ehlers Estate. Cortney Klein, one of the daughters to the proprietor/ress, was our host. We tasted outside under a rather nice gazebo among a lush yard adjacent to their 15 acre vineyard. Tasted through Chardonnay, Cab. Franc, Petit Sirah, 2 Cabs ( one reserve ) and their late harvest dessert cab. Their wines run from $50 to $600. And almost all their wine is grown right on property, the only exception is the Chardonnay.
They are by appointment only and do screen their guests, largely due to their size (1800 cases) and the fact they can only accommodate roughly 8 guests at a time. The tasting fee is $75 per person and is only waived with a case+ purchase. I wouldn’t really suggest this location for guests “just looking to taste in a beautiful setting”.
My Ah-ha moment was the first time I had their Cab franc, wonderfully juicy and just the right balance of tannins. Presentation is one glass at a time, in a beautiful stem that only they have (actually hold the patent on the design and all made in Prague) All in all a stunning property and stellar wines, and would love to continue to maintain a relationship with them.

Lunch at Brix
Brix is just north of Yountville, it is set on the Kelleher Family vineyards, including over 2 acres of gardens and orchards that supply the kitchen daily. Inside, the restaurant is very spacious and the patio looks over the garden and family vineyards – gorgeous.
Menu is truly farm to table and offers a range of options from mostly Northern California cuisine. Make sure to order the signature appetizer – Tempura Green Beans with spicy mustard sauce. Here is the full menu and reservations are highly encouraged.
*During covid they are serving on their extensive patio space!
A couple of doors up Valley from Brix, go onto Dwyer Road, as you take a left into the Paradigm Estate, Mary Ann will welcome you with a vineyard tour, explaining the history & philosophy of the family as well as vineyard and winery practices.
Walking back to the Paradigm home, you will taste a selection of their current releases which changes seasonally. The tasting offers an overview of the general Oakville appellation and goes into their green initiatives and what challenges they have faced over time.
You might be so fortunate to meet Ren, a wonderful personality and owner of Paradigm from inception with his wife Marilyn. They used to grow & sell grapes until they started making their own wine in 1991 with a little help from Heidi Barrett.
An authentic and inspiring tasting we cannot recommend enough.

Shop at Hunter & Gatherer
Colby opened their Yountville store in November 2016 after being involved in many design industries she decided to make Napa her only home. “Essentials for the good life… at Hunter Gatherer we aim to provide the Napa Valley with the high end staples that make everyday life in wine country just a little more luxe, a “modern take on the general store.”
Make sure to stop in & explore, there is a genuine item for everyone!
Handwritten Wines is a small boutique winery producing about 2500 cases a year. Napa Green Certified winery, they are known for their comparative tasting of hillside Cabernets Sauvignon from 2 acre block vineyards. Bill, Matt & Vi will take you through the ‘Tales of terroir’ with their Classic tasting. Greeting you into their home to enjoy different Napa Valley appellations (AVAs) side by side, it is a unique way of discovering Napa Valley’s diversity in terms of soils and climates. Take a moment to write a handwritten letter to an old friend after your tasting.
“Evocative wines • Elevated vineyards”
Opened two decades ago by French Chef Philippe Jeanty, this Yountville staple is now run by Philippe’s daughter, Camille. Traditional French recipes made from locally sourced ingredients, you might find several locals enjoying an evening there. Tomato soup in puff pastry and steak tartare are exceptionally devine.
